Thirty years ago, even ten years ago, the thought of learning to play an instrument, guitar or ukulele, from your computer seemed like an idea from a science fiction story. Fast forward to 2021, post CoVid 19 - 2020, when our world seemed to have stopped in its tracks - suddenly we’re housebound. We saw more people working from home, shopping from home, watching movies from home, ordering takeout from restaurants closed to indoor dining, and surfing the internet.
This brings me to the change in the way people lead their lives in 2021 versus pre-CoVid and In-person guitar and ukulele lessons or YouTube guitar and ukulele lessons.
There are many great guitar and ukulele players on YouTube. They will show you interesting lead lines and fills to play, how to play a chord, notes/chords in a song, a strum pattern to go along with a particular song, and many more isolated tips. What you’ll find on YouTube can be compared to tools in a toolbox – you may have a flathead screwdriver, phillips head screwdriver, wrench, hammer, needle nose pliers, slip joint pliers, etc. Each of these tools can make a project efficient and productive if you know how and when to use them effectively and efficiently.
Here are some comments from my in-person guitar and ukulele students --
Spencer says, “I had been trying to learn how to play guitar online for over a year and had found that my progress had slowed. Monica pointed out changes to my technique and provided music theory background that has helped me move forward again. Lessons with Monica are both enjoyable and productive.”
Margaret says, “Monica is a very helpful ukulele teacher. She explains how to play in a way that is creative and easy to understand. When she sees what I am doing incorrectly she has many visual and auditory examples/tips to look at playing in a different way.”
Karri says, “...Monica has structured each lesson towards what I’m looking to get out of it. She asked before my first lesson what type of music I wanted to learn to play so I can learn songs that are exciting to me! It’s also so much fun to go to each lesson and have her play with me...”
